REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEIRUT -- Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah congratulated the Syrian people and leadership on the success of presidential elections.

Speaking during a memorial service marking the passing away of Sheikh Mustapha Kassir, a prominent cleric, Nasrallah applauded the elections as the "most important event that happened recently,'' that saw high public turnout which he described as "an achievement and victory for Syria and the Syrian people."

He said that the elections constituted a political and popular declaration of the failure of the war on Syria, stressing that whoever wants a political resolution should cease all support to terrorists "in action, not words."

Nasrallah said that it's not enough for some countries to list takfiri groups as terrorist groups, as there are some countries who have done so yet continue to support them, asserting that the preservation of Syria requires reconciliation, dialogue, and ending bloodshed and destruction.

He noted that the millions of Syrians who participated in the elections proved to those who wanted to divide Syria that they are capable of forging their future, that Syria is strong, and that it's not really a battle between "the regime and the people."

Hezbollah chief said the elections were accomplished despite immense US and Western pressure and threats against the Syrian leadership which brushed off Western bullying and went ahead with the elections.

While lashing out at a litany of accusations about the elections, not least that they are an "illegal farce,'' Nasrallah said that the countries behind these accusations, in fact, have been seeking to hijack the public will of the Syrians.

Nasrallah said the elections have bestowed a "renewed public trust" on the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad whom he heartily congratulated for his re-election.

Addressing the Lebanese people, Nasrallah told them to "have no worry whatsoever when Syria emerges victorious, for its victory will be a blessing upon Syria and the entire region."

On another note, Nasrallah asserted that the resistance in Lebanon could not have become the growing force it is today without public, cultural, and ideological support with a massive popular base.

He refuted as baseless the accusations that Hezbollah and its allies are hindering the presidential elections in Lebanon, challenging those who level such accusations to present one shred of proof supporting their claims, asserting that choosing a president for Lebanon should be done via accord and agreement among the Lebanese, not by counting on foreign sides.
