REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Guruh Soekarnoputra, the youngest son of Indonesia's first president, the late Soekarno personally hopes that his father can be appreciated as the father of the nation. This appreciation is same like other international leaders, such as Mao Tse Tung, the founder of People's Republic of China or Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese revolutionary leader.
"Bung Karno (Soekarno's popular name) is the grace of God, the father of the nation, the mouthpiece of Indonesian people, the proclamator and the great leader of revolution. He must be appreciated as Ho Chi Minh or Mao Tse Tung. Bung Karno deserves to be rewarded like them," Guruh said in in Jakarta recently.
Juli 2014 marks 113 years of Soekarno's birth. He was born in Surabaya, East Java on June 6, 1901 and died on June 21, 1970.
"This country does not give proper place to Bung Karno. Some awards, which have been given to him during this never looked sincere, but always had political reasons," Guruh said.
Guruh sees his father as a great figure and great teacher. He seemed silent and bowed with tears when he told about the story of Soekarno.
