Minister: Eight billion IDR provided to help former Dolly sex workers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of Social Affairs allocates 8 billion IDR to help about 1,400 former sex workers at Dolly red district area in Surabaya in East Java, to start their new life. 

"We will provide living cost for three months, transport allowance, and capital to start new business," Minister of Social Affairs Salim Segaf al Jufri on Monday.

He explained that the ministry provided each former sex worker of 20 thousand IDR per day for living cost allowance, 250 thousand IDR for transport allowance, and three million IDR for business capital. If they want to return ti their hometown, local government will assist them on housing. 

Earlier, Mayor of Surabaya Tri Rismaharini met with the minister to discuss the closure of Dolly, which to be closed on June 18, 2014. Rismaharini said that city government would provide some skills to encourage them start their own home business. 

"We will teach them on how to make batik, cake, salted egg and fried onion," Rismaharini said,
