Aburizal offers apology over party's failure in polling

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- General Chairman of Golkar Party, Aburizal Bakrie apologized to all the party cadres in the national leadership meeting or 6th Rapimnas on Sunday regarding the party's failure in raising the number seats on the April 9 legislative polling.

"We should admit that the party's achievement of the legislative elections is not in accordance with our expectations. Therefore, as the party's general chairman, I am the most responsible one. I apologize from my deepest heart to all of you," Aburizal, better known as ARB stated at the Rampimnas opening ceremony here.

The Golkar party only gained 91 seats in the House of Representatives (DPR) after the April 9, 2014 legislative elections or lower compared with 106 seats as the results of the 2009 elections.

In the meantime, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) gained 109 seats or the highest number of the total 560 seats in the parliament as the results of the April 9 polling.

On the occasion, ARB also highly appreciated the hard work of all cadres in their struggle in the legislative elections.

Despite the lower achievement of votes, ARB urged all the party cadres to ovoid pessimism because people supports to Golkar rose about four million votes in the 2014 election compared with that in the 2009 legislative elections.

The 6th Rapimnas of the Golkar Party was aimed to determine the agenda relating to the direct presidential election that will take place on July 9, 2014.
