REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUBANG -- Minister of Agriculture, Suswono said that Indonesia still needed more soybean supply. This country always experiences deficit as the supply cannot meet the demand.

"Soybean production cannot meet national needs," Suswono said recently as reported by Wahyu Saputra.

Indonesian demand for soybeans in 2014 reached 2.2 million tonnes. However, it cannot be produced by farmers. Suswono said that the Indonesian soybean production ability only reached 850 thousand tonnes per year.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has asked Ministry of Agriculture to re-analyze and revise the projection figure of soybean production, from 1.5 million tonnes per year to 1.2 million tonnes per year to the national needs. Land management for soybean in Indonesia is still weak, so that government will utilize the uncultivated land for that.

He hopes that the achievement of 1.2 million tonnes of soybean production per year will run well supported by government budget.
