National Film Production Significantly Increased

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu said the national film production this year increased significantly about 18,4 percent compared to last year. Until April 2014, there are 45 titles of which passed the sensor procedures.

"Last year, numbers of our film productions are 105 titles, this year we are optimistic it will be increase," she said in Jakarta, Friday.

She was confident this enhancement will be followed by improvement of quality. It proofed by there are so many Indonesia's film that widely known in international arena.

One of the example, Mari said, 'The Raid 2: Berandal' which was popular in international film societies. "In meetings or international film festivals, international producers often mentioned that film to Indonesian delegation," she said.

From 45 titles of Indonesia's film produce until April 2014, several of it avowed qualified and successfully screened in theaters. Such as '99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa part 2', 'Sepatu Dahlan', Princess, 'Bajak Laut & Allien', 'Kau dan Aku Cinta Indonesia', 'Sayap Kecil Garuda', 'Comic 8' and also 'Killers' which was made by collaboration of Indonesia and Japan.

According to Mari the increasing number of national film production reinforced the role of creative economy to national economy in the last years. In 2013, creative economy contributed to national economy Rp 641,8 billion or 7 percent of national PDB.

The surplus value of creative economy trade in 2010-2013 periods is worth to Rp 18 billion. And the contribution of total creative economies for foreign exchange worth US $11,89 billion. So the total contribution of foreign exchange in tourism sector and economy creative reached US $21,95 billion or 11.04 percent of total foreign exchange Indonesia.
