REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, who is seeking to run for president, has not resolved labor problems in the capital as not all companies have implemented the new minimum provincial wages, a labor union official said.
"It's useless for Jokowi (to run for president). When we demanded a new provincial minimum wage of Rp2.2 million from Rp1.5 million, he agreed to it. But not all companies had complied with the rule and had applied for postponement," chief of the Indonesian Prosperous Labor Union (SBSI) 1992 Sunarti said during the commemoration of the international Labor Day at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout here on Thursday.
She said Jokowi was not different from his predecessors because he forgot to fulfill his pledge to workers.
"To me, Jokowi is the same as his predecessors. What's different? Don't feel excellent, you did nothing," she said.
Commenting on the other presidential candidates, Sunarti said she had found no ideal presidential candidate.
Thousands of workers from Jakarta and surrounding areas staged a rally in the capital on Thursday to mark the international Labor Day. As a result, many major streets were congested, forcing police officers to reroute traffic to other streets.
On the occasion, the workers demanded elimination of the outsourcing system, rejected cheap labor and called for social security.
