REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- The National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) plans to build a food museum in Yogyakarta. It is an effort to boost tourism industry as well as providing education for society about food safety.

“Yogyakarta has hundreds of type of traditional food that must be preserved and, through this museum later, the society can understand traditional food and how it was processed by prioritizing food safety,” Head of BPOM Roy Sparingga said after signing an agreement with the Regional Government of Yogyakarta in Yogyakarta, Wednesday.

Roy said, one of traditional food that needs to be preserved is tempe. In the museum, public can learn the history of tempe and how it made.

According to him, tempe is one of future foods and it is loved by people overseas.

“Tempe is a food that has a high nutrition value. Foreigners were already admitting it,” he said.

However, Roy has not been able to determine the construction and the location of the museum construction.

“We will coordinate with the relevant agencies about the continuation of this discourse,” he added.
