REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Analyst of Indopremier Securities, Stephan Hasjim said that the acquisition of PT Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) by PT Bank Mandiri would give large benefits to both companies. This acquisition is also in line with Bank Mandiri's strategic plan 2009-2014.
"Bank Mandiri will be able to expand its portfolio of retail loans, especially housing loans," Hasjim said on Monday.
In five years period, Bank Mandiri targeted that retail loans would raise from 31 percent in 2013 to 40 percent in 2014. Minister of State Owned Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan said that he would continue this acquisition process despite disagreement from many parties.
"BTN should be grown up. They - who disagreed with this acquisition - has no concept and road map," Iskan said on Monday.
Indonesia must have a big national bank in the middle of many big national companies. Former PLN's president director explained that local companies increased larger, while local banks did not feel the same. It made foreign banks growing up in this country.
If this acquisition was failed, foreign banks will get the benefits as they can serve and provide more facilities to big companies in the country. Iskan said that he could not decide it alone as there were rules that should be met. As the minister, he has made a plan and road map for the bank's progress.
