PDIP wins legislative election held at Houston Consulate General

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) won the legislative election held at Indonesian Consulate General Office in Houston, the United States, with 705 votes out of total 1304 voters turnout, a press release from the consulate general received here on Sunday said.

The election itself was held starting March 30 to April 5, while the vote counting was held on April 11. According to the consulate general's data, there were 1304 Indonesian people came to cast their votes at the consulate general.

PDIP won by obtaining 705 votes followed by the Prosperous and Justice Party (PKS) with 182 votes, Gerindra party (105 votes), Golkar (47), National Mandate Party (PAN) with 40 votes, Democrat party (49), The United Development (PPP) (27), National Awakening Party (PKB) (20), Hanura (14), PKPI (17) and Crescent Star party with 3 votes.

Indonesia is holding two elections this year, namely the parliamentary election on April 9 and the presidential election on July 9.

The parliamentary election is set to choose 560 members of the House of Representatives (DPR), 132 members of Regional Representatives Council (DPD), 2,137 members of provincial legislative assembly and 20,257 members of the district/city`s legislative assembly.

About 185.8 million Indonesians are eligible to cast their vote in the 2014 election with 2.2 million among them living abroad. Those who live abroad cast their votes from March 30 to April 6 for the parliamentary elections. Their votes will be included in the electoral area of DKI Jakarta II, consisting of Central Jakarta and South Jakarta.
