Pelni expands cargo business

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- State-owned shipping firm PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) launched a large scale business transformation to strengthen business foundation. President Director of Pelni, Syahril Japarin said that company would gradually transform portion of revenue from passengers into cargo.

Current portion of revenue from passengers' transportation reached 70 percent, while cargo 30 percent. In future, Pelni will develop business cargo up to 70 percent, while passengers 30 percent. Passengers are still served even its service quality continuously improved through electronic ticketing system.

E-ticketing system is implemented in KM kelud serving Tanjung priok port and Belawan port. Pelni business can be stable next year and the company can be a state owned maritime holding in 2017.

Company will transform it by sharpening business orientation, changing the corporate and employee culture, improving efficiency and quality of service to passengers, also implementing the principle of good corporate governance.
