BPPT sows 86.9 tons of salt to induce rains

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- The Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) has dispersed 86.9 tons of salt powder in the past two months to induce rains through the weather modification method (TMC) over the Riau Province.

"We are still doing the job," the head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB)'s data unit Agus Wibowo stated here on Friday.

The data unit said the cloud seeding was carried out by using two airplane, Hercules and Cassa. The Hercules plane had sowed salt powder from March 14 to March 27, 2014.

It had sowed a total of 64 tons of salt.

Meanwhile, the Cassa aircraft had been carrying out the cloud seeding to induce rains over the Riau Province to put out forest fires, since the first week of March. It had dispersed 22.9 tons of salt since then.
