Fire and smoke grabs three victims

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKANBARU -- Forest fires and smoke pollution that occurred in Riau in last two months causing three victims died. Special team recorded that the three victims were residents of Pelalawan, Meranti and Bengkalis regency.

Meranti police officer, Zahwani Pandra explained that the first victim died after his asthma getting worse due to contamination of smog that hit Pelalawan. The second victim is Muhammad Adli (63 years), a resident of Sungai Gayung Kiri village in Meranti regency. His dead body was found by a resident who was also a resident of Sungai Gayung Kiri village.

"Adli suffered burns on his back, allegedly due to fell in a burning peat," Pandra said recently.

The last victim is an employee of PT Surya Dumai Agrindo (SDA) who died while putting out fires in Bengkalis regency. The 30 year old man named Muslim, a firefighter employee in SDA. He was killed by a falling burning tree.

Head of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Syamsul Maarif said that Ministry of Social Affair would provide compensation to residents who died from forest fires and smoke pollution in Riau.
