REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to help the Jakarta provincial government supervise the use of the provincial budget.

"I hope (the KPK chief) Abraham Samad will help supervise the use of the provincial budget because it involves a huge amount of money," Jokowi said after signing an agreement with the KPK to control bribery at the City Hall on Tuesday.

The provincial budget rose sharply to Rp72 trillion in 2014 from Rp49.9 trillion last year, he noted.

"The increase in our provincial budget this year is huge. Therefore, we want to involve the KPK in supervising its use. I always remind officials and employees of their obligation to spend the budget cautiously," he said.

The Jakarta provincial government is also committed to creating a transparent system as part of its efforts to prevent its officials and employees from receiving any form of bribes, he added.

"Right now we have started our commitment to control bribes at the Jakarta provincial government by improving the public service system," he said.

The provincial government is applying electronic systems to provide public services through online tax payment systems, electronic budgeting (e-budgeting) and electronic catalogs (e-catalogs), he stated.

"If we keep improving the systems, I believe the systems will be better, and so will the implementation of development projects," he remarked.
