REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALU -- Crossfires between police officers and armed group took place in Kilo Village, Poso Pesisir Utara District, Poso Regency on Monday at 1 p.m. local time.
Spokesperson of Central Sulawesi Province Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Soemarno stated that two Mobile Brigade police officers were injured during the crossfire that went on until 4 p.m.
"Second Brigadier Baharuddin got shot on the thigh, while Second Constable Syamsu Alam was shot on his hip. They were brought to Palu for treatment at the Bhayangkara Hospital," Soemarno added.
Soemarno pointed out that he did not have information yet whether any member of the armed group was arrested or injured.
The crossfire, according to Soemarno, started when police officers had laid siege at the armed group hideaway in the forest at Kilo Village, around 160 kilometers Southeast of Palu.
"Apparently, the armed group were prepared so when our officers landed there, they attacked them," he explained.
