Automotive boost Astra's profit

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Giant automotive company, PT Astra International posted a high net income of 19.4 trillion IDR with revenue growth of three percent to 193.9 trillion IDR. President Director of Astra, Prijono Sugiarto explained that the net income was driven by automotive division,  company's largest division reached 9.8 trillion IDR.

Automotive division profit grew four percent throughout 2013. Demand of motor vehicles remained high. However, the competition was also getting tougher due to increased domestic production capacity and high cost of employee.

Business group component also increased sales volume. However, it declined in term of net profit in business component due to high demand and rising market share. Total national car sales increased 10 percent or 1.2 million units.

Astra's car sales are comprised of Toyota , Daihatsu , Isuzu , UD Trucks and Peugeot. It rose eight percent or 655 thousand units. However, the market share fell from 54 to 53 percent. Astra has launched 23 new car models and 12 facelift models, including low cost green car (LCGC), namely Toyota Agya and Daihatsu Ayla. Both of them went on sale in September 2013. National motorcycle sales rose 10 percent to 7.7 million units. Honda sales increased 15 percent or 4.7 million units or 61 percent of market share in Indonesia.

"Astra Honda Motor has launched two new models and nine facelift models," Sugiarto said recently as reported by Friska Yolandha.
