REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Having abundant forests, Indonesia has an important role to play in combating climate change problems, according to the British permanent Special Representative for Climate Change, Sir David King.

"Indonesia is the most aggressive among developing countries in terms of handling climate change," King said here on Friday.

He noted that Indonesia and Britain have the same problems due to climate change, namely flooding, which has had an enormous impact on the economy.

According to King, the issue of climate change today is one of the largest challenges for the world community.

"We are all responsible for handling the issue of climate change by reducing, reusing, and recycling garbage," King explained.

He said handling climate change issues could not be postponed because its impact was predicted to become even larger in the years to come.

Further, he pointed out the climate change has caused the ice in the Arctic Ocean to melt and raise sea levels.
