President: Batik has a bright future

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PEKALONGAN -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was heading to Pekalongan, Central Java in his presidential visits. Head of State visited International Batik Center in the city, including batik village in Kauman to see batik production.

"Batik has a bright future. Creative economy, including batik has high contribution to national economy," Yudhoyono said on Wednesday.

Indonesia has 50 million middle class people. The number is projected to increase to 135 million people by 2030. It means, batik production can also increase following number of middle class consumers.

"You can imagine, they all love to buy batik which is being today's lifestyle," Yudhoyono added.

He hopes batik craftsmen to keep persevering batik painting. President also asked local government to maintain the future of batik.
