President reminds neighboring countries not to violate Indonesian sovereign territory

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono reminded neighboring countries not to get into the sovereign territory of Indonesia. Indonesian sovereign territory cannot be violated. He said it at State Palace when led national coordination meeting with Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries on Thursday.

"Our maritime sovereignty can be violated anytime by other countries. We must ensure the security of Indonesia's marine regions," Yudhoyono said as reported by Esthi Maharani.

Yudhoyono said that marine regions which covered about three-fourths of Indonesia's territory should be secured at exclusive economic zone (EEZ). Indonesia must be able to maintain its sovereignty for the sake of homeland.

The head of state added that the threats to Indonesia's marine security not only from other countries that entered Indonesia, but also other crimes, such as pillaging, illegal fishing, also illegal logging. Marine security becomes an important thing.
