Military ready to safeguard 2014 general election

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian military is ready to secure the 2014 general election, especially in Papua, which is often threatened by armed civilian groups. Chief of General Staff, Boy Syahril Qamar said that Indonesian Army and General Election Commission (KPU) have cooperated for security of logistic election distribution, including in Papua.

"Whatever the situation in this political year, Military is always ready to face a number of security problems that occurred," Qamar said on Wednesday.

Military has also performed some exercises to anticipate and respond the possibility of terrorist acts that threaten national election. Qamar explained that the exercise was also carried out to improve the preparedness and professionalism of soldiers.

"We increase the capacity and capability of terror response team in Military unit to face factual condition of terrorism," Qamar added.

All soldiers must have similar perception and become a force in the eyes of society. Therefore, sectoral ego that can cause weakness and a barrier must be removed.
