BKPM issues permissions for 30 smelter constructions

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Head of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Mahendra Siregar said that the agency had given permission for 30 smelters' constructions in 2013 as part of the implementation of government's policy which ban mining company to export of raw material. Three smelters will operate this year.

"The others (27 smelters) will operate within next two or three years," Siregar said on Tuesday.

Total investment for the construction is 150 trillion IDR. Siregar said that government's ban was expected to strengthen national energy resilience and reduce national dependence on fuel imports. 

BKPM also has given permission to 50 companies to invest in biodiesel worth 40 trillion IDR. BKPM's data show that total investment in Indonesia reached 398.6 trillion IDR or increased 27.3 percent in 2013. The new investment was recored 63 percent of total investment, dominated by foreign investors about 67.8 percent.
