REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- Four crew members of the chartered plane which crashed in the eastern Indonesian city of Tual on Sunday remained unidentified, Commander of the Southeast Maluku and Tual City Air Base Lt. Col. Ketut Adhiasa said.

The civil plane which left Sentani airport in Jayapura intended to make a stopover in Tual on the way to Baubau, he said.

The charred remains of the four crew members still could not be identified, he said.

A team of rescue workers had evacuated all the remains from the crash site and put them in body bags, he said.

The remains were later taken to the Karel Satsuitubun regional general hospital for further identification, he said.

"Hopefully, the identities of all the victims could be known exactly after being taken to the hospital," he said.

Ketut said the weather in Tual city was very bad in the past few days.

Before the plane crashed, the pilot had contacted the management of the airport in Tual to allow it to land at the airport. However, bad weather caused the plane to hover around the city's sky before it crashed and burst into flame, he said.
