REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - This year's financial losses due to flooding in Jakarta is greater than 2007. Director General of Water Resources in Ministry of Public Works, Mohammad Hasan said that direct and indirect losses reached 20 trillion IDR.
"The floods in 2013 is less severe than 2007, but they damaged some vital areas, such as strategic areas of industry and government offices," Hasan said recently.
In 2007, the losses was recorded at 8.6 trillion IDR, including direct (5.2 trillion IDR) and indirect losses (3.6 trillion IDR). The damaged areas were scattered in 454.8 square kilometers (km2) in Jakarta and 471 km2 in Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.
Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that four people died because of flood. There are 2,761 people live in 20 refugee camps. Number of residents affected by flood reaches 2,925 families or 8,064 people spread in 10 sub-districts and 18 villages in Jakarta.
