Jakarta on flood alert until Feb 12

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta is on flood alert until February 12, the status which National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Spokesman, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said could potentially lead to an escalating catastrophy.

"This mechanisme makes Jakarta Governor issuing a letter of Jakarta's flood alert," Nugroho said on Wednesday.

Jakarta provincial government has conducted weather modification at Halim Perdana Kusuma airport in East Jakarta which absorb 20 billion IDR from regional budget 2014. The procedure used BNPB the budget because the plan has not been approved by Jakarta parliament. 

The process is carried out using three aircrafts including Hercules aircraft Cassa 212-200 owned by Indonesian Air Force. Each airplane carried six tonnes of salt in funnel-like container. The salt then was spread into the cloud. Similar procedure was conducted in 2012 and successfully reducing 35 percent of percipitation.
