REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUWAIT -- Indonesia plans to donate funds to Syria through International Donor Conference for Syria. The conference is held to raise funds for Syrian refugees in Kuwait on Wednesday.

Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait, Ferry Adamhar said that Indonesia had contributed to Syria worth 500 thousand USD last year through organization in United Nation (UN).

"We give the donation directly to UN," Adamhar said recently.

Total donation that was collected at the conference last year reached 1.5 billion USD. Kuwait and United Arab Emirates each gave 300 million USD. Non-governmental organization in Kuwait also donated 183 million USD, followed by USA (155 million USD), European Union (133 million USD) and UK (81 million USD).

The target this year is expected to be double worth 2.6 billion USD. The donation will be given to Syrian citizens and refugees scattered in neighboring countries. Indonesia is one of four ASEAN countries invited by UN to participate in this conference, beside Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Thailand.

Indonesia is represented by Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait. This conference is chaired by UN Secretary General. Ban Ki Moon. UN Spokesman, Jens Laerke said that at least 9.3 million people in Syria needed help. UN hopes this conference can accumulate funds of 6.5 billion USD.
