REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- An Australian company wants to invest in cattle farms in Aceh Besar, head of the district office of animal husbandry Ahmad Tarmizi said.
Harry Lawson and Tom Lawson of the Livestock Improvement Company had visited a number of livestock farms in regencies in Aceh Besar, Ahmad said here on Monday.
"They have expressed interest after visiting a number of livestock farms with wide grazing range in the regency," he said.
Earlier Ahmad Tarmizi said the Australians visited cattle ranches and grazing fields in Krueng Aceh, in the sub-district of Ingin Jaya.
He said he also showed the location of cow farms of PT Leumona in Kuta Malaka.
The Australians also visited the cow farms in Blang Ugo-Ugo Saree, Aceh Besar.
"They showed keen interest in investing and opening a cow farm in Blang Ugo-Ugo," he said.
He said Blang Ugo-Ugo Saree area has 650 hectares of open range owned by the government and local people.
"The location was formerly a cow and goat farms owned by the Aceh Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Body (BRR NAD-Nias), which involved local farmers. In Blang Ugo-Ugo, we already have five big stables and houses for workers," he said.
Blang Ugo-Ugo is only 15 kilometers from the Banda Aceh-Medan highway making it strategic and potential for modern livestock farms, he said.
A memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed with the Australian company, he added.
