REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Attorney General Office will confiscate assets of Asian Agri, a giant agribusiness company found guilty of tax evasion worth 1.340 trillion trillion IDR in 2012. Minister of State Owned Enterprises, Dahlan Iskan said that government was ready to take over the assets as government assets.

Iskan said that government would manage 165 thousand hectares of lands owned by Asian Agri, as well as dozens of company's assets that would be confiscated.

"State Owned Ministry has been asked (by the Attorney General) to cooperate and we will be in charge," Iskan said on Thursday.

Iskan said that state owned plantation company PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PT PN) could control the assets. PT PN can supervise and manage the land to increase national palm oil production.

"We hope Asian Agri will pay its tax liability, so no confiscation is necessary," Iskan added.

During 2002 to 2005, Asian Agri manipulated the amount of corporate spending. The tax evasion was conducted by subsidiary of Soekanto Tanoto estimated at 1.340 trillion IDR. Company was ordered to pay 2.5 trillion IDR, two folds of real tax evasion figure. Company has to pay the fine within one year, from February 1 2013 to February 2014.
