REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- State owned Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has channeled its government-sponsored micro lending program (KUR) worth 87 trillion IDR for 9.2 million customers in 2013. Corporate Secretary of BRI, Muhammad Ali said that the increased figure was driven by good access to credit through administrative and infrastructure access.
"The figure increased 2.4 trillion month to month (mtm) compared to November 2013," Ali said on Thursday.
As the largest micro lender in Indonesia, BRI is supported by Teras BRI units around the country. Ali said that such program could also be carried out by other banks so that credit access to be wider in society.
BRI will continue to strengthen health insurance and services to micro entrepreneurs. For example, small business entrepreneurs do not need to leave the merchandise as bank will serve their transaction directly through electronic data capture (EDC).
BRI still manages to control its credit quality although conducting aggressive expansion. It is seen from non performing loan (NPL) ratio at level of 1.61 percent. KUR participants consist of 99 thousand retail debtors and 9.1 million micro debtors.
