REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Social Security Management Agency (BPJS) has set a target to provide insurance service to every Indonesian citizen by 2019, through the National Health Insurance (JKN) scheme.

"We have set ourselves a target to provide insurance cover to all Indonesian citizens by 2019," Endang Tidarwati, BPJS director for insurance participation affairs stated here on Monday.

She urged Indonesian citizens, who had not joined the scheme, to register with the BPJS office in their respective domiciles.

"In the preliminary stage, we are still focusing on efforts to switch the previously insured members under various insurance schemes such as the Askes, Jamsostek, military/police, and jamkesmas to the JKN scheme.

As of now, the number of JKN participants has reached 116 million, comprising 86.4 million health insurance assistance recipients (PBI), military/police personnel, and members previously covered under the Askes and Jamsostek insurance schemes.

Workers or employees should register with the JKN and their premiums will be paid by their employers.

Economically stable and non-government employees can participate in the JKN scheme by paying monthly premiums at affordable prices based on the class of coverage they plan to enroll in, such as class III with a premium of Rp25.5 thousand, class II with Rp42.5 thousand, and class I with Rp59.5 thousand.

Over 35 million civil servants, police personnel, and employees of state-owned companies have registered in the health insurance program.

In total, 121.6 million Indonesians are now covered under the JKN scheme, and 125 million others are expected to be covered soon.

As of Thursday, a total of 9,217 public health care centers located across the country have teamed up with the BPJS to implement the health insurance program, or about 96 percent of the target.
