REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Islamic-themed movie, 99 Cahaya di Langir Eropa or 99 Lights in the European Sky becomes the best selling movie in 2013. The theme seems outnumber other popular themes in Indonesian movies, like horror, action, and thriller.

The movie and its novel was written by Hanum Salsabila Rais, daughter of national politician Amien Rais decided to make different parts about history of Islam in Europe. The book has been reprinted more than 20 times. It certainly has a major endeavor to represent Islam.

"Me and my husband are very happy. We thank God and be grateful that many people like our 'baby' (the movie)," Rais said on Thursday.

This movie is directed by Guntur Soeharjanto. He predicted that this movie would attract more audiences. In this movie, Hanum (Acha Septriasa) and her husband, Rangga (Abimana Aryasatya) were making their new life in Vienna, Austria. They were exposed to new values, which often clash with their personal values.

Hanum met with Fatma (Raline Shah), a Turkish lady who showed her many historically Islamic traces throughout Europe. As Hanum was enthusiastic to learn more, Fatma introduced her to Marion (Dewi Sandra), A French woman who converted to Islam after learning about Islamic history.

Rangga and his Pakistani friend, Khan (Alex Abbad) also struggled to practice their Islamic values, especially when they had to deal with halal food and prayer. The movie was set in four European countries, namely Vienna (Austria), Paris (France), Cordoba (Spain), and Istanbul (Turkey).
