Customary forest to cut number of wood realtor

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BULELENG -- Customary forests that are managed properly can be utilized for legal timber production. It can cut off wood realtor who takes high profit and leaving people in poverty.

Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan appreciated Selat village in Sukasada district, Buleleng regency that managed to develop an integrated management of customary forest. The village also has a village owned enterprises to manage the forest.

"This is good and advanced. It can also be developed by other areas," Hasan said recently.

Village owned enterprises will attract investors to cooperate in five to six years. About profit sharing scheme, Hasan added that investor could get 40 percent, the owner (40 percent) and management (20 percent).

Hasan saw that the most important was market management. If it is not managed well, customary forests will be handled by wood realtor and they will get more profits.

Association of Craftsmen of Small Industry (APIK) can help to increase value added of wood products, such as handicrafts and furniture. With government, they will assist capital of 20 million IDR per hectare per year, design, production technology and management.
