Armed robbers steal seven kilogram gold in Kendal

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KENDAL -- A group of armed robbers on Sunday stole seven kilograms of gold and jewelry from Toko Mas Kancil, a local jewelry store, located at Pegadon Street, Kendal District, Central Java.

Five armed robbers, arriving by RX King and Megapro motorbikes, raided the jewelry store at around 12:30 pm local time.

One of the eyewitnesses, Kholis (33), said the jewelry store was crowded when three of the robbers raided it, the other two were waiting outside on the motorbikes.

The robbers, who wore masks to cover their faces, shot the firearm twice in the air during the robbery to scare the costumers, Kholis said.

According to Kholis, the robbers only needed around five minutes to do the robbery and escaped northbound.

"They seemed professional because they did it quickly," Kholis said.

Chief of Kendal Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Haryo Sugihartono confirmed the robbery had taken place.

"The victims said the robbers made off with seven kilograms of gold jewelries," Sugihartono said.

On the crime scene, police collected two bullet shells and two nine-milimeter bullets and a hammer used to break the shop window.

Police also secured the record of the shop's CCTV for investigation.
