REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Police and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have discussed possible cooperation to improve the capabilities of investigators in charge of corruption cases.
"We paid a courtesy visit to the KPK leadership. There will be an integration of all the investigators, namely, police investigators, the attorney general office's investigators and the KPK's investigators. We will fight corruption together throughout Indonesia," Commissioner General Suhardi Alius, the chief of the National Police's Crime Investigation Department (Bareskrim), said after holding a meeting with the KPK leader at the KPK building here on Thursday.
National Police Chief General Sutarman led the police delegation in the meeting with the KPK leadership.
Suhardi Alius pointed out that the police can assist the KPK in investigating corruption cases, particularly in the regions.
In fact, the police and the KPK are already coordinating and carrying out joint supervision in a number of regions, such as Papua, Makassar and Yogyakarta.
Johan Budi, a spokesman of the KPK, said the National Police could help with investigating corruption cases in various regions.
"We have started discussions on the creation of joint teams. If the KPK does not have adequate investigators in the regions, we can ask the police or the attorney general's office. For now, the talks are more general in nature," Budi added.
