REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GAZA -- Prime Minister of Hamas rule in Gaza, Ismail Haneya, on Wednesday made a phone call to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, urging the latter to help resolve a severe energy crisis in Gaza.
During the phone conversation, Haneya and Lavrov discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, a statement released by Haneya' office said.
According to the statement, Haneya urged Lavrov for an immediate intervention to ease the Israeli blockade imposed on the coastal enclave since 2007 and to resolve the Gaza crisis that has lasted for over a month.
Haneya also told Lavrov that the direct peace talks with Israel hasn't achieved any tangible progress.
For his part, Lavrov said Russia is concerned about the situation in Gaza and the deteriorating economic situation there.
"Russia is holding contacts with the concerned parties of the international community to help end the crisis," Lavrov said, adding "it is very important to lift the siege and end the suffering of the Gaza people."
