REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SANGATTA -- Dayak tribes in Long Noran village, East Kutai regency, East Kalimantan will charge a palm oil company, PT Tapian Nadengan Bukit Subur Estate with four billion IDR. The company was suspected as forest destroyer in the area.
Tanen Uyang (65 years), one of leaders of Dayak Long Noran in Sangatta said that thousands of trees were cut and many valuable trees destroyed and could not grow back. The illegal action damaged environment. Rattan, wood and bamboo are also broken replaced with palm oil plantations.
"The money value is still less compared to damage of our forest, which covering area of 1,035 hectares," Uyang said recently.
Company allegedly conducted land clearing for palm oil plantations outside its business land use rights issued by local government. Uyang claimed that the forest was under their duty and care since 1965 after they moved from Apukayan, border region to Malaysia.
Company also cultivated land without gave compensation for more than 200 families, the native of Dayak Kenyah. This problem will be more complicated as demand for compensation was rejected by company. Uyang said that both parties had a meeting, but so far there has been no response.
He said that the company was not willing to pay compensation, though the land was actually owned by local residents. Lon Noran residents with other indigenous people will continue to fight for their land. They will also request assistance customary attorney to sue the company.
