REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia is seen being ready to take part for log export. The export is considered to encourage forestry business back alive.

"We expect government to re-open log export selectively," Chairman of Natural Forest Production in Association of Indonesian Forest Concessionaires (APHI), David said on Tuesday.

Employers still face a problem of price variety of domestic log price with regional market price that reached three million IDR per cubic meter. David saw that forest industry could thrive when relied on sale of primary wood products, so that employers should not be forced to sell secondary wood products, which have lower price.

Primary wood products were more desirable as it have added value. Downstream investment program (hilirisasi) initiated by government should not be a boomerang for forest industry.

Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan expressed his supports for APHI's proposal. He saw implementation of forestry business concession was in critical condition. It's indicated by low production and realization of license for utilization of timber in natural forest (IUPHHK) which only reached 1.9 million cubic meters in September 2013. It's only 30 percent from target of 6.17 million cubic meters.

This realization, Hasan said, could be optimized. Employers can provide input regarding what support must be given by government, such as levy, export licensing and its process.
