Pekraman Jasri, the best tourism village in Indonesia this year

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA -- Pekraman Jasri in Karangasem distric, Bali was named as the best tourism village 2013 by Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. The village set aside other 138 tourism villages from 29 provinces in Indonesia.

This year, number of villages increased from 72 villages last year. Nglanggeran village in GunungKidul, Yogyakarta got the second place, while Samiran village in Selo district, Boyolali got the third. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Mari Elka Pangestu said that the best tourism village could be used as a model for other tourism villages in Indonesia. The race highlighted the impact of tourism village on local community.

"It creates a good and successful standard of tourism village, also its impact on society," Pangestu said recently.

Last year, the best tourism village was given to Pentingsari village in Sleman. Tourism development in this village was considered the best as given many benefits for residents. Currently, there are 80 houses as home stays, which 50 houses are eligible for foreign tourists.

Housing industry in Pentingsari village also grew to six groups. It has 40 local guides and a group of agricultural and cultural art with 30 members. All tourism villages in 2013 received assistance of PNPM Bank Mandiri from 2009 worth 8.75 billion IDR.
