REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo (popularly known as Jokowi) accompanied Prime Minister of Netherlands, Mark Rutte visited Pluit Reservoir on Thursday. It is a pilot project to address flood in Jakarta.

According to Jokowi, Rutte wanted to see the reservoir condition. He hopes Netherlands can help to solve flood problem in capital city. Therefore, the Windmill Country is known expert on water management.

"They have long experience about flood. Maybe they can help us about what kind of water management we must take," Jokowi said.

Head of Planning and Regional Development Board, Sarwo Handayani said that Netherland would provide technical assistance or expert assistant to Jakarta to resolve water problem. This water governance cooperation has been agreed between Jakarta Governor and Mayor of Rotterdam on September 23.

Jokowi said that he wanted to accelerate the implementation of giant sea dike to hold one billion cubic of water in North Jakarta. The dike is important as it can protect Jakarta, especially in north, from threat of tidal flood that often attacks the region. Local government will start this construction in 2015.

Local government now still conducts feasibility study of several aspects, including economic, environmental and health aspect. Giant sea dike is a long term solution, which will be able to complete 90 percent of flood problem in Jakarta.
