REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian state enterprises minister Dahlan Iskan has asked state-owned companies to take precautionary measures against possible attacks by Australian hackers.

"Several state-owned companies have said they are already prepared to thwart any possible hacking attempt by Australian hackers. The Angkasa Pura (airport operator -ed) has also confirmed it has adopted a multiple security system," he said on Thursday.

Companies have been asked to increase the security of their websites for their own protection.

Relations between Indonesia and Australia have become strained after allegations emerged of Australia spying on Indonesian officials, including President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The allegations prompted Indonesian hackers to attack some important Australian websites, which could provoke retaliation from Australian hackers.

The website of Garuda Indonesia, an Indonesian state-owned company, has been mentioned as one of the websites that has been attacked by Australian hackers.

Asked whether his office has also taken any precautionary measures, Dahlan said: "In principle, all state-owned companies must adopt special security measures to prevent hacking."
