REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that construction of Sunda Strait Bridge that would connect Java and Sumatra should be built by Indonesia people. He put the trust after some national infrastructures, such as Bali toll road showed satisfactory result.

"President has determined that the bridge construction needs to use Indonesia's ideas. It means that the project has to involve Indonesian engineers with local designs and it is expected to be national icon," Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Hatta Rajasa said on Thursday.

Rajasa explained that many foreign investors, such as South Korea and China wanted to take part in this project. They are eager to help the technology.

Bridge's construction needs cost of 200 trillion IDR and not going to use state's budget. It will be taken by state owned enterprises and private companies. Rajasa hopes that feasibility study of Sunda Strait Bridge will be completed in 2014, so that construction process can begin soon.
