Military to monitor oil theft in Pertamina's oil pipeline

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- Chief of the Sriwijaya Regional Military Command II Maj. Gen. Bambang Budi Waluyo said his side continued to supervise Pertamina's oil pipeline network in Musi Banyuasin District, South Sumatra to protect it from theft.

"Our personnel continue to monitor the oil pipeline which stretches from Tempino to Plaju to prevent the repetition of theft of oil from the networks," Waluyo said here on Saturday.

He said that the military personnel were deployed to guard the network sections where locals often stole oil.

The regional military commander said that his personnel were deployed to guard the oil theft because his institution had cooperation with state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina.

Besides that oil and gas are asset of the state that had to be protected. Therefore, military personnel had to guard the state assets, he added.

He also called on the people to help halt the theft because the action was dangerous. "This incurs a loss to the state and the people should prevent it."
