REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marty Natalegawa encourages the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand. He delivered the statements in a Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) between both countries recently.
"Indonesia and Thailand have identifies many opportunities to enhance both cooperation in bilateral, regional and multilateral," Natalegawa said recently.
The two foreign ministers agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation frameworks through JCM each year. They also agreed to improve economic relations, trade and investment, also to identify opportunities and facilitate business relations more closely.
Indonesia - Thailand cooperation agreements that have been signed over the last three years, including a memorandum of understanding in education, law, anti-corruption and trade agreement have reflected an increase in relations between the two countries. Natalegawa asked Prime Minister of Thailand, Yingluck Shinawatra to discuss some issues concerning bilateral, regional and international to both countries.
JCM between Indonesia and Thailand have been ongoing since 1992 as bilateral mechanism to improve partnership, to establish diplomatic basis since 1950. Indonesia and Thailand trade values continue to increase over the last 10 years, from three billion USD in 2002 to 19 billion USD in 2012.
There is also a significant increase in tourist flow over the last few years. It opens opportunities through promotion of mutual cooperation, as well as improving access and connectivity between both countries.
