REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The police have detained five persons in connection with rioting at a courtroom of the Constitutional Court on Thursday.

Dozens of people, believed to be supporters of candidates running for governor, who had lodged a lawsuit against the results of a recent election held in the Maluku province, ran amok in the courtroom of the Constitutional Court after the court ruled against their demand.

"Five persons have been held for questioning and further processing in connection with the rioting at the MK," Jakarta police spokesman Senior Commissioner Rikwanto stated.

Rikwanto further said the rioters are believed to be supporters of H Abdullah Tuasikal-Hendrik Lewerissa, Jacobus F Puttileihalat-Arifi Tapi Oyibhoe, H Adhan Dambea and H Inrawanto Hassan, who had demanded a repeat election due to their dissatisfaction with the results of the recent election.

The rioters had vandalized television monitors, microphones, a glass notice board and chairs in the courtroom.
