REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta Public Works chief, Manggas Rudy Siahaan said that provincial government would make inflitration wells in all streets in Jakarta. The wells will be dug in every five meters.

"Water can be absorbed. It will not puddle on the road," Siahaan said on Tuesday.

Siahaan is optimistic that Jakarta today is more ready to face floods than before. He projected that flood in Jakarta would much reduce from last year.

Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama said that flood mitigation in capital city still reached 20 percent. Flood mitigation in Jakarta needs careful planning.

The process must be carried out step by step. Local government has conducted some revitalization programs that aims to restore function of water reservoir container.

"Dredging system is still on going process in Pluit reservoir, from two or three feet to 10 to 15 meters," Purnama said.

City government also conducts dredging in Ria Rio reservoir and Teluk Gong reservoir.
