The meeting is a follow-up of the Joint Statement on International Cooperation on Protection of Witnesses and Victims of Transnational Organized Crimes issued at an international conference organized in Bali on June 13, 2012, LPSK Deputy Chairperson Lies Sulistiani said on Monday.
"The conference's participants praised Indonesia's initiative on the need to follow-up the conference's statement by establishing a regional network to strengthen international cooperation in the protection of witnesses and victims of transnational organized crimes," she said.
The upcoming meeting in Bali is to be attended by representatives of 10 ASEAN member countries, namely Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and Indonesia. Representatives from Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste are also invited to attend the meeting.
The Bali conference in 2012 was attended by law enforcement officials from 30 countries.
The LPSK signed a memorandum of understanding on the protection for witnesses and victims with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT).
