East Kalimantan hoist the world's largest flag

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA -- Provincial government of East Kalimantan managed to host the world's largest flag in Youth Pledge Day Commemoration in Palaran Stadium, East Kalimantan on Monday. The Red-White has vast of 2,182 square meters.

Vice Prsident of Record Holders Republic in Indonesia, Halim Sugiarto give the world's charter to Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, Roy Suryo as one of team members. The other members who also witnessed the event were Governor of East Kalimantan (Awang Faroek Ishak), Director of Bank Kalimantan Timur (Zainudin Fanani) and Head Department of Youth and Sport in Kalimantan Timur (Sigit Muryono).

Sugiarto explained that the previous giant flag was hoisted by Mexico with vast of 2,100 square meters. Indonesia's giant flag was hoisted by a team of Indonesia Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI).

"This giant Red-White flag has length of 70 meters and width of 30.4 meters. This is 28 square meters wider than previous record," Sugiarto said recently.

Suryo said that the launch of Red-White flag had a philosophy of Youth Pledge Day. The number 28 is defined as anniversary of Youth Pledge Day, while the number 100 is meant the commemoration of 85th Youth Pledge Day which almost reaches 100 year old. The year 2000 is defined as demographic development of Indonesia looks at the world.

"We expect that Indonesian young people can move more close to encourage success of the nation," Suryo said.
