Investment in transmigration areas reach 9.5 trillion IDR

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration increases its investment in transmigration areas as many investors are interested to invest throughout Indonesia. Until March 2013, there were 34 companies that cooperated with inti and plasma farmers in transmigration areas with value of 9.5 trillion IDR.

"We expect transmigration areas can grow and develop in short time," Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, Muhaimin Iskandar said last weekend in Sintang, West Kalimantan.

Involvement of investors are needed. The need for the use of technology, application of good management practise and marketing will explore the potential of natural resources which are contained in transmigration areas.

There are some kinds of businesses interested by investors in transmigration areas, such as plantation, animal husbandry, agriculture, enterpreneurship and forestry sector for opening of Community based Forest Plantation (HTR). Iskandar said that palm oil, rice, rubber, sugar cane, sisal, seaweeds were several commodities that wanted to be developed by investors.

Beside the 34 companies, there are 54 companies waiting for Transmigration Implementation Permit (IPT) which are spread across transmigration areas in Indonesia. Transmigration areas are equipped construction of public facilities, such as primary schools, health care centers, and houses of worship.
