JAKARTA -- Jakarta Provincial Government filed a draft of local regulation on the establishment of a new region-owned enterprises (BUMD), namely PT Penjaminan Kredit Daerah, a region owned credit company.
Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo (popular as Jokowi) explained the draft in a plenary meeting in front of Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD).
The new region owned company will assist entrepreneurs of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Jakarta. Jokowi said that SMEs still faced difficulties to access bank credit for business development. Bank determines a number of requirements that cannot be met by SMEs, such as the business must be considered by government.
"We need PT Penjaminan Kredit Daerah that can help SMEs to gain loan access and the obstacles can be solved," Jokowi said recently.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman of Jakarta Legislative Council, Triwisaksana said that legislature would soon discuss the draft.
