REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating a case of corruption in the procurement of information technology installation for the laboratory of the state University of Indonesia.

Tafsir Nurchamid, former deputy rector of the country`s largest university for human resources, finance and general administration, was summoned again on Thursday as a suspect for further investigation in the case.

Tafsir is accused of stealing state money by inflating the cost of the procurement of the installation in the fiscal year of 2010-2011.

Tafsir , who was already investigated earlier on Sept 27 as a suspect refused to answer reporters` questions when he arrived at KPK on Thursday morning.

During his first investigation last month , his lawyer Cudri Sitompul told reporters Tafsir committed no markup saying his client followed only the procedure in the implementation of the project.

Tafsir was responsible for the implementation of a number of projects of the state university worth Rp21 billion including for the procurement of the information technology for the laboratory .

Cudri also said his client received no order from his superior former rector Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri in the case.

Tafsir was charged with abusing his power causing losses to the state and he is facing a maximum punishment of 20 years in jail and a fine of Rp1 billion.

Gumilar has also been questioned by KPK as part of the investigation of the case.

A Public Fund Management audit for the 2009-2011 budget years by the Supreme Audit Agency published in January 2012, showed that there were potential losses of around Rp45 billion in two projects of the university.
