REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, -- The Metallica spirit in Indonesia never dies! At least, that’s what we witnessed on last Sunday, 25/08/2013. Not even close with the performance schedule, fans of this heavy metal band had been strolling much earlier around the complex area of Gelora Bung Karno Senayan. Not only around the concert area, but also the malls nearby, especially fX Lifestyle Center.

Recognized easily, these fans were wearing black tees " screaming out " Metallica and gothic make over. Very much we know, they had managed their best to watch the historical return of James Hetfield and Friends since 20 years ago.

Finally, after longing for hours, at 08:23 p.m, the show started and an inevitable energy suddenly felt burst out and creeped us among the fans. The legendary Metallica were on stage, consisting of James Hetfield (vocal and guitar), Kirk Hammett (guitar), Robert Trujillo (bass) and Lars Ulrich (drum) appeared in front of these 50.000 audience (including us!)

To add up more fuel before the show started, two LED big screens both on right and left of the stage were showing scenes of a cowboy on a desert’s grave. Shortly afterwards, the stage lighting played its part. The main LED screen suddenly displayed Ulrich who brandished “peace” before beating the drum set to command the rest of members to play Hit The Lights.

The hysteria more and more ensued the audience, especially when Metallica mercilessly hit with their two legendary songs, Master of Puppets and Fuel. It came more into more enthuasiastic when Hammed showing off with his electric guitar, playing melody of Star Wars music score full with distortion as an intro to Fade to Black.

"Hello! You seem so energic … it needs 20 years to get back here. Did you remember this?", Hetfield exclaimed to the audience. "Jakarta, did you feel it, I knew you see it, hear it, and felling it. Did you feel what I feel?", Hetfield continued, pumped the audience loud up to the max that night.

Metallica’s last show in Indonesia took place in 1993 – at the peak of the band’s commercial popularity while they were on the road supporting the mega selling “black” album. Sadly, the show ended up with a riot by anger of fans who didn’t get free tickets for the show.

Luckily, last Sunday’s show was delivered very well both by the promotor and the audience as well. We really enjoyed the night and see you Metallica SOON!
